When will I receive my Minnesota Property Tax refund?
Property tax refunds often start showing up at the end of August, but Minnesota state law does not require payments to begin until September 15th. If your 2014 Form M1PR is filed by August 15, 2015 and if Minnesota has no reason to hold or adjust your refund amount, you should receive it during the last half of September.
Homeowners file Form M1PR after the new property tax statements are issued by the counties in late March or April. If you are a renter, your Minnesota Form M1PR can be filed with your Minnesota tax return.
If you didn't file Form M1PR last year, you have until August 15, 2015 to file your 2013 M1PR.
Can I check my refund status online?
You can check the status of your refund by clicking this link:
You will be asked to provide your Social Security Number and the year, type, and exact dollar amount of the refund you are checking.
What if I have not filed my 2013 Form M1PR? Am I out of luck?
The 2013 Form M1PR was due August 15, 2014. However, Minnesota generally grants a one-year grace period to file Form M1PR.
So all is not lost, but the sooner you file that form, the more likely you are to receive your refund this year.
We would be happy to assist you with filing Form M1PR!
